Kano Tsunenobu 狩野常信

Kano Tsunenobu (1636–1713), the son of Kano Naonobu, was born in Kyoto. At the age of fifteen, after his father’s death, he became a pupil of his uncle Kano Tanyū. Tsunenobu became a leading artist of the Kano school and was given the rank of Hōgen (Eye of the Dharma) in 1704 and shortly thereafter received the title of Hōin (Seal of the Dharma)—the highest possible accolade for an artist.
