Raphael, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino
Raphael (1483–1520) was a leading figure of the early sixteenth-century Italian High Renaissance along with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Raphael is best known for his large fresco The School of Athens that he painted at the Palace of the Vatican while Michelangelo was painting his celebrated ceiling fresco in the Sistine Chapel.
